Ad Notes

Ad Notes keeps a record of what your team changed, when, and on which campaign, across every advertising platform you work in, written straight to a Google Sheet or a Google Doc.

Why it exists

Nobody remembers what changed three months ago.

Performance moves and the first question is always the same: what did we change, and when? Most ad platforms give you nowhere to record a change at all, and the ones that do stop short of the ad and keyword level. Ad Notes gives a team one durable record across every platform they run.

Key features

Every change, recorded without the busywork.

01

Real-time capture

Google Ads notes are logged automatically the moment you click “Save”. You keep using the Google Ads interface exactly as you do now.

02

Works beyond Google Ads

The same note form works on the other major advertising platforms, with no setup per platform.

03

Fills itself in

Tick the rows you are working on and the note form reads the account, campaign, ad group, keyword and ad straight off the page. Press Ctrl+Shift+Y (Cmd+Shift+Y on Mac) to open it.

04

Sheets and Docs

Log to a spreadsheet you can filter, a readable doc, or both.

05

Historical export

Bulk export the notes already in the Google Ads notes panel with one click, so your history starts complete.

06

Smart categorization

Each note’s type is detected automatically: Bidding, Budget, Video, Ad Copy or Keyword.

07

Duplicate prevention

When two people log the same change, it appears once.

08

Routing rules

Connect several sheets or docs and choose what each one gets: all notes, certain accounts, or certain platforms.

09

Nothing dropped

If a write fails, the note is kept and retried automatically.

What gets captured

A complete audit trail of every change.

Each note includes:

  • Date and timestamp
  • Platform
  • Account name and ID
  • Campaign, ad group, keyword and ad (whichever apply)
  • Note text
  • Auto-detected category
  • Who logged it

Sheet, doc, or both

A table to work with, or a log to read.

A sheet is a table: filter it, sort it, pivot it, pull it into a report. A doc is something you can read: newest first, a heading for each date and each platform, every note a bullet with its details beneath it.

Either destination stands on its own, so a doc can be your only one, with no spreadsheet involved.

Setup

Four steps, about two minutes.

  1. Install Ad Notes from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Sign in and choose your Google account.
  3. Pick an existing Sheet or Doc, or let Ad Notes create one for you.
  4. Start logging.

No scripts to deploy, no webhook to host, no keys to copy.

Privacy and security

Your data never leaves Google.

Notes go from your browser straight to your Sheet or Doc, with no server of ours in between. You control who has access to your Sheet or Doc.

Only the files you choose

Ad Notes can only open the files you pick or that it creates, never the rest of your Drive.

The page, only while you log

It reads the page only while the note form is open, to fill in what you have selected.

Sign-in handled by Chrome

There are no passwords or secrets to store. Your Google account is used to sign in and to record who logged each note.

Who it’s for

Built for people who run accounts.

  • PPC teams managing multiple accounts
  • Agencies tracking client account changes across platforms
  • In-house marketers documenting optimizations
  • Account managers maintaining change logs
  • Teams that need audit trails for compliance

Support

Questions, bugs, or a platform you want supported?

Ad Notes is built and maintained by Tim Gibson. Email is the fastest way to reach me, and feature requests from people actually running accounts are the ones that get built.
